Olympic Games

 

We can say the Olympic Games originated long ago in ancient Greece; when exactly they were held for the first time and the circumstances which led to their creation is uncertain .We know that the games were a direct result of the values ​​and beliefs of Greek society.

Greeks perfected fitness and mental discipline, and they believed that excellence in these areas honored Zeus, the greatest of all gods. There was a legend the Olympics which revolves around Zeus. It was said that his father Zeus fought once for control of the world .They fought on top of a mountain. After the defeat of his father a temple was built and a huge statue in the valley was called Olympia below to honor him.  And they held religious holidays close to the statue and people came to the worship of Zeus. It is believed that these religious ceremonies eventually led to the famous Olympic Games.

Although we do not know when it first started competition at the Games, but the nearest Olympic competitions were recorded in 776 BC. The competition has been conducted in a single winner was a chef and that was the beginning of the first Olympics

We talk about the evolution of the Olympic Games. In 1500 BC., the Olympics started, and was a minor role in the beginning. It was as a basic concept represented in religious ceremonies such as Greek funeral, In 884 BC. After the depression of the recession hit the Olympic Games, the three kings Ekorges, Ivitus and Kliusntes made an armistice agreement. After consulting the priests of the temple at Delphi they resumed the new games, in the year 776 BC.In 146 BC, the Romans took control of the Olympic Games, after the country became a Greco Roman province. They had heated disagreements between the Greeks and the Romans, after Romans professionalism entered in sports competitions in 1892, French Baron Coubertin called for the advancement of the Olympic courses again and attempted to revive the Olympic Games.

The Olympic Games have changed a lot in the twentieth century; nowadays they do it once every four years in a different country; they have a lot of games and countries all over the world competing in a lot of games to get the Olympic gold medal. Every four years the country which hosts the Olympic Games has big opening ceremony.

The Olympic Games also have special events for handicapped people; they compete among each other and get money for charity to help handicapped people.

Before the Olympic Games didn’t have a lot of sponsors because this kind of event was not famous but now there are a lot of sponsors who want to be part of this event. Sponsors these days compete with each other for who is going to be the main sponsor.
People all over the world watch the Olympic Games because of their variety. A lot of fans travel to attend the ceremony because they like to be part of the event. They Olympic Games has become very important for all the countries; all over the world countries support their teams to get the Olympic medals.

First reflection

My first summary was about desert police patrols; the teacher told us to look at the title first then to skim for the main ideas and he told us to focus at the first and last paragraphs and to skip the names and quotations, we did what he told us trying to cover all the important points and get the main ideas of each paragraph.

 

The second one was about car accidents being the biggest cause of child death in the UAE and how people ignore the importance of the child car seats and how it helps them to avoid a lot of problems, however the article has a lot of names and things that have been told by people and we tried to get the main points of the passage.

 

The last summary we did was about touring in the waters of Jebel Ali and pearl diving experience for the locals and tourists and how some people hope to save this sport from getting forgotten. In my opinion it was the  easiest one and the last two summaries we did helped us a lot in our summaries experience.

Tour provides insight into pearl diving

The Arabian Gulf was one of the largest natural diving economies in the world. There were more than 1000 pearling boats which offered jobs for 20,000 pearl divers until the 1950s. The Emirati hunt for the black pearl has not stopped completely. They still do tours in waters off Palm Jebal Ali for the tourists. Taking the tourists in a pre-launch dhow tour and pearling dive where they learn the merits of fetching oysters from the sea bottom and once safe back on board, look for naturally-grown pearls. Oyster hunters didn’t get rich but it was about the journey. Dhows has wooden decks of  60-feet. The local pearl industry collapsed when Far East pearl farmers did the pearl planting. Now it is much easier to get pearls instead of going for months  searching of them. A long time ago pearling was the main source of income but it has gone away for many reasons but some people are hoping to keep it alive by doing tours and make people know about this amazing sport.

Road crashes main cause of child death in UAE

Traffic accidents are the main reason of death among children, responsible for killing 63 per cent child aged 14 and younger in the UAE. Although this is a main issue in the UAE , only one law has been passed saying that children ten years and older can sit in the passenger seat wearing a seat belt, yet 28 per cent continue to do this. The time has come for authorities to make a solution towards child seat safety. A very small percentage of child passengers are restrained by car seats or seat belts, 96 per cent of children in the UAE are not seated properly. Child car seat can reduce risks by 50-75 per cent and absorb the actual crash force and at the same time take it away from the child. The child stays in the seat so they aren’t ejected. Today there are a lot of car seats to fit the different ages of children. RTA is trying to solve the problem and reduce the number of children killed by car crashes.

Desert horsemen keep the pace

A group of horsemen goes out patrolling AL Awafi desert searching for troublemakers. The horses carry the police symbol on their saddles-a falcon with seven stars symbolizing the seven emirates. The horsemen wear kanduras wrapped around their waists, black boots and a traditional headgear is wrapped around their foreheads to protect their eyes. The five horsemen are part of RAK Police patrol division. They monitor areas outside cities that are hard to reach by cars. The horsemen use only mobile phones and walkie-talkies . They don’t talk to people they meet. They do their  job quietly making sure that there is  no trouble. The horsemen like to ride the Arabian horses because they are always powerful and just want to run. The horsemen work during the winter and school breaks, that’s when people come to camp. Horses are used only for four hours so they don’t get tired and remain useful.
